NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Thursday banned the use of laser beams at wedding parties held at farmhouses in south Delhi’s Chhatarpur area as they pose a serious threat to flights taking off or landing at IGI airport.
The ban was put in force after air traffic control officials reported that a number of pilots had complained of partial blindness during landing over the last two weeks due to the lasers hitting their eye while flying overhead.
All farmhouses, banquets, hotels and restaurants that have come up in and around IGI were earlier asked to ensure no functions affect flight operations and using of laser beams is a violation of the order. An officer said, at present, there are no rules to regulate the use of laser beams.
Delhi Police, stating that safety of air traffic must be ensured, on Thursday issued an order prohibiting the use of laser beams at farmhouses, banquets, hotels and restaurants. Those violating the order would be punished under section 188 IPC (disobedience of order promulgated by a public servant). The notice has also been sent to civic bodies in the area.
